Well , I reckon I got me a double portion . The good Lord blessed me with rebel roots to my core . I was born on a military base here in Virginia , but didn't live there . Raised in Virginia but both my folks and grandparents hail from South Carolina .
I consider that the best of both worlds ! I've lived here all my life except for about 4 years in Florida and a few short months in Houston .



When I turned 18 the Realm deemed it mandatory that I sign up for the obligatory selective services draft in the event I be called to fight and die for their greater glory .
The terms to which I readily agreed to stated that one must not vacate the states boundaries without prior notice . I nodded in the affirmative and signed on the dotted line ..... and then I split for Florida . I had other plans .



Boys , let me tell ya about them ol southern gals and I mean no disrespect towards our ladies spread around the map , for of a certainty God excelled when He created them all . But once one of our lil darlings casts them entrancing eyes upon ya , once you get wrapped up in and wooed by their sweet southern drawl ..... you don't stand a chance buddy and there aint much you wont do to curry their favor ! I'm talking about buffing her car up by moon light if'n that's what she wants ! Busting big ones into littler ones on the rock pile if that's what it takes ! If God so blesses ya , cherish her for the treasure she is .

This is called spanish moss that grows on the oak trees . It gets right long and hangs pretty heavy . Can be sorta creepy at night if yer prone to such ! Looks pretty cool though .

And it goes without saying , that this " southern insurrection " mentality includes our kindred spirited brethren all 'round this country !

The Battle of Parker's Ferry was a classic Francis Marion action and one where he lived up to the nickname "The Swamp Fox". In the summer of 1781, after having moved his army south of the Edisto in response to the hanging of his compatriot Isaac Hayne, Marion's men descended on the ferry. They lay in wait in the swamps beside the causeway for a chance to strike at the British.They did not have long to wait. Soon, Major Thomas Frazier and 450 Tory cavalrymen thundered along the causeway. Marion's men opened fire and threw their enemy into disarray.

The battle, like so many of these actions in the LowCountry during the Revolution, was quickly over. Over 100 Tories had been killed, while Marion and his men slipped back into the deep swamps unhurt.Seeing the flooded trees and swampland next to Parker's Ferry today, it is easy to imagine the difficulty of war in such a place and the hardships of men called to wage it.
